Just Another Weekend

Before I'm done with writing about our Cambodia trip, just to share how we spend our weekends like typical married S'porean couples ;p

Saturdays usually I'll do simple cooking and we'd go marketing nearby such as Rivervale Plaza and Compass Point, and even the round market at Tampines street 11 if we are there for brekkie. The poultry stall at Rivervale Plaza (always long queue) sells Sakura chicken parts which will be sold out if we are late. I find the flesh really firm and tasty ^^ Hubby says he can taste the fragrance of corn (kinda unbelievable).

The dish is yummy and very simple to prepare too! Here's the recipe for those who are interested to try it out ;)

Emperor herbal chicken

Serves 2

Seah's Emperor Herbs Chicken Spices - 1/2 pckt
Chicken thigh (chopped) & mid joints - 500gm (May have some of the skin removed)
4 mushrooms - sliced thinly
Red dates with pits - slit into halves
Wolfberries
Ginger - sliced thinly

Condiments: 1/2 tsp light soy sauce, sesame oil & pepper

1. Marinate chicken with the herbal powder, 4 tsp water & 1/2 tsp light soy sauce for a few hrs.

2. Place mushrooms, chicken, ginger & red dates in a plate.

3. Bring water to boil in a wok.

4. Steam chicken on high heat for about 13 mins & add in wolfberries.

5. Steam for 5 mins more & finish off with some sesame oil & pepper for fragrance.

It takes 2 hrs to have all the food served (2 dishes in fact) and only 15 mins to finish up everything >.<ll Hubby is kind enough to wash the dishes whereby I'm already quite shag from the cooking <3

Every Sunday, we'd wake up at 6am to go jogging (brisk walking for me) at East Coast Park. Why the hassle? The air is fresh and cool plus lotsa negative ions, and we can watch the sun rising from the horizon which is considered quite a rare sight for us ^^ We feel motivated seeing people trying all means to exercise; 1 guy to the extent of carrying mops on his back while jogging and elderly in their 60s and 70s walking with a limp. The other motivation factor is brekkie of course ;p

Last Sun, we went to the hawker center at Bedok Central facing the interchange. I had my all-time fave "yam abacus seed" while hubby had the yummy Bedok chwee kway. The yam abacus is springy and doesn't stick to the teeth. It goes well with the savoury sauce that is not too thick. Various side ingredients include minced chicken, shitake and enoki mushrooms, carrots and cabbages, which are all braised to perfection. For the price of $2.50, I'd say it's definitely worth the money! Even my fastidious 4 years old niece loves it ^^
